You get things done. School, work, family, the group chat, all of it moving, and from the outside you’re doing well. What nobody sees is that you come last on your own list, that you’re harder on yourself than you would ever be on anyone else, and that lately it’s been taking everything you have to keep it going.

You don’t have to wait until it costs you more than it already has.

Rachael Hodge is a Licensed Psychological Associate and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist at Allora Rise Counseling and Therapy, seeing adults 18 and up at the practice’s Wrightsville Beach office and by telehealth throughout North Carolina. Her clients are most often highly productive people who are overwhelmed or burning out. Many tell her they need to find balance, and most of them arrive unsure where to start.

She works most often with three things.

Depression

If you’re stuck, this is the work of getting unstuck. Rachael uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral activation, which means starting with small actions rather than waiting to feel like doing them, and meeting you where you actually are rather than where you think you should be by now.

Anxiety

You’ve stopped going after things, not dramatically, just quietly, one avoided thing at a time. Anxiety robs you of living your life the way you want to, as Rachael puts it, and it widens back the same way it narrowed.

Life transitions

A move, a graduation, a job ending, a relationship ending, and the version of your life that came before it no longer applies. Rachael hasn’t forgotten what her own transitions felt like, including how frightening they can be, and her view is that they go better with a calm presence in your corner.

Beyond those three, Rachael also works with social anxiety, perfectionism, burnout and work-life balance, chronic stress, mood disorders, grief and traumatic loss, anticipatory grief, substance use and recovery, and the impact of a loved one’s addiction. She also offers faith-integrated counseling on request.

She’s equipped to work with substance use behavior, and spent over four years in community mental health treating substance use alongside other mental health conditions. She has also worked extensively with high-achieving students, working professionals, and older adults who want to keep growing or break an old pattern and start fresh.

Clients would say Rachael's patient, offers homework and skills practice to anyone willing, and in her own words isn’t especially funny but loves to laugh.

Most of her training is in CBT, and it’s the lens she sees through, so its principles are present every session. She adds Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) skills for intrusive thoughts, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills for sitting with intense emotion, motivational interviewing when someone is weighing a change, relapse prevention once someone has committed to changing that behavior, and mindfulness across substance use work, anxiety, and ADHD symptoms. Self-compassion skills apply nearly everywhere.

On anxiety specifically, her early work is about the fact that thoughts are just thoughts and don’t have to mean anything, then setting up small experiments to test what someone assumes will happen. That lets you attend to what actually occurs rather than what you fear might. She has had clients finish anxiety work inside three to six months.

She’s originally from North Carolina and spends her free time with family or outdoors, enjoying the western part of the state whenever possible.

Your first session

The first session covers your family history, your background, and where things stand now. The opening question is a simple one: what brings you to therapy now? That usually produces at least an initial picture of what you’re dealing with and what needs priority. If you both agree it’s a good fit, you leave with some initial goals and a clearer sense of what you want out of this, which you can then adjust as more comes to light.

Whether Rachael is your fit

Rachael works one-to-one with adults 18 and up. Her practice is built around depression, anxiety, and life transitions.

If that is what brought you here, a free fifteen-minute consultation with Rachael is the fastest way to know. If you’re carrying something else, email info@allorarise.com or call or text 910-408-2302, and we’ll point you to the therapist here who works with it.
